While nowhere near as broken as other AAA shooters, players still face several potential issues. What only adds to the problem is Black Ops Cold War’s myriad of bugs, errors, and glitches. The multiplayer side of things doesn’t do much better, with lackluster maps and recycled elements from Warzone and previous games. Once again, our protagonists dutifully shoot and explode anyone in their hyper-patriotic quest to save the day. The antagonist is a stereotypical villain, armed with the standard fare of nukes, and threatens to destroy the western world. The game offers familiar (if not overdone) characters, the same split time periods as its predecessors, and cliched cinematic action setpieces. That’s largely owing to the game’s comparative lack of new ground tread when considering the entry before it, 2019’s well-received Modern Warfare reboot. That said, Black Ops Cold War, the latest title, feels a bit too safe even for a by-the-numbers franchise. After all, that’s what having the ability to mow down dozens of CPU enemies does to the average player. The graphics look nice and the gameplay makes you feel powerful. Sure, the games sell well, but that’s based on their formulaic, mindless action-focused style. While the now-iconic franchise has become a staple part of every end-of-the-year release, it is rarely asked for. I'm getting tired of modern games coming out undercooked by billion dollar companies who should have invested more time and money into their projects rather than hastily chasing trends to milk their fanbases.Let’s all come out and say it: Call of Duty needs to step its game up. I have honestly had more fun and less problems playing the Beta, you know, the unfinished version of the game. Pausing and Resuming the download seems to fix it but it just crashes again. It downloads about 200Kb of data and always seems to get stuck on the last 65.54Kb. The game launches, starts downloading shaders and about 3 minutes in the main menu it crashes and tells me to do a scan and repair. I re-installed Windows much like OP and decided to install Cold War on my second drive. After multiple restarts, scan and repairs, I just thought that maybe my NVMe was borked. I had a couple blue screens while the game was open. Not only did they royally screw with the XP for zombies but now I can't even play the game I have paid for. I've been having nothing but problems with Black Ops Cold War ever since they dropped the new patch.
